Oggy – Our Little Cornish Superstar Cornish in name, Cornish in nature… and pretty much the colour of the sand!

Meet Oggy, our gorgeous little seven-month-old terrier and one of our recent Spirit Paws superstars.

When Oggy first came to us, he was very much embracing his teenage era! Full of energy, easily distracted and with a rapidly changing adolescent brain, getting Oggy to focus and actively want to work with his owners was going to be key.

And what a difference a few weeks have made.

At Spirit Paws, I don’t just look at the behaviour somebody wants to change. I work with the whole dog. Why is the behaviour happening? What is motivating them? How are they feeling? What are they learning from the world around them — and how can we make engaging with their human the best option available?

For Oggy, a big part of that journey has been learning how much fun it can be to listen, engage and work alongside his owners.

But his humans deserve an enormous amount of the credit too.

They took everything we worked on during our sessions and put it into practice at home. They were consistent, they kept going and they gave Oggy the opportunity to succeed.

And succeed he has!

The little whirlwind who arrived at Spirit Paws has become a much more focused young dog who is motivated to learn and increasingly choosing to engage with his people.

That doesn’t mean Oggy has suddenly stopped being Oggy — and we wouldn’t want him to! He’s still a cheeky, energetic young terrier with a whole world of adventures ahead of him. We’ve simply helped channel all of that enthusiasm in the right direction.

And that is exactly what good training should do.

Not suppress personality.

Not demand perfection.

But help dogs and their humans understand one another and enjoy life together.

So, of course, there was only one thing left to do…

Award Oggy his very own Spirit Paws rosette!

Just look at that face. We think he knows he’s rather clever too.

Well done Oggy — and a huge well done to his humans. This little Cornish lad has come a very long way, and we couldn’t be more delighted with him.

Keep being brilliantly Oggy.

Kirsty
